BMS History

Ballarat Memorial Sports Bowls Club (BMS) was formed in 2004 and was the result of the amalgamation of Ballarat City and Serviceman's Memorial (SMBC) Bowling Clubs. Ballarat City's home was in Eyre Street and Serviceman's Memorial home was in Creswick Road. Both venues were used for the first year but only the Creswick Road site was used in subsequent years.

BMS elected to relocate to Alfredton Recreation Reserve and sold the Creswick Road site. The decision was made due to declining membership and a poor financial outlook at Creswick Road.

BMS used Ballarat and Central Wendouree Bowling Clubs greens for its home games in the 2008/09 season season due to delays with its construction of the present greens at Alfredton which were completed for the 2009/10 season.

The lower (south) green was re-carpeted for the start of the 2017/18 season. This was done via a Council insurance policy claim after it was damaged due to flooding. The original carpet was used for 8 seasons.

BMS has had considerable success since its formation. In Saturday Pennant we have premierships in Division 1 four times, Division 3 twice, Division 4 and Division 6.   In Midweek Pennant, we have premierships in Division 2, Division 3 and Division 4.  All this sucess (11 premierships) in just 15 years !!!
